William
G. Guerin, Esq.

Bill provides a range of legal services to the firm’s clients, including
services directed to acquisition and enforcement of patent and other
intellectual property rights in the
United States
and foreign jurisdictions. He also assists clients in developing strategies for building and
maintaining intellectual property portfolios. In addition, Bill performs
infringement and validity studies, drafts and negotiates technology license
agreements, and provides general intellectual property counseling.
Bill graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1979 with a
B.S. in Physics and he graduated from the University
of
Rochester
in 1982 with an M.S. in Optics.
After graduation, Bill was employed in the Optics Group of
Perkin-Elmer Corporation where he worked on the development
of electro-optical instruments for the Hubble Space Telescope.
In 1985, Bill joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory where he contributed on
a variety of programs concerning optical communications, laser radar, and
airborne and spaceborne imaging systems.
Bill earned his
J.D.,
cum laude with a High Technology Concentration with Distinction, from
Suffolk
University
Law
School
in 1997. He
has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
since 1997. Prior to graduation,
Bill became
associated with the law firm of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP where he
prosecuted domestic and foreign patent and trademark applications and counseled
clients on a wide range of intellectual property matters. In 2002, Bill, along with Mike Rodriguez,
left Testa to form the intellectual property law firm of
Guerin & Rodriguez, LLP.
Bill acquired over 15 years of technical experience during employment prior to
entering the intellectual property law profession.
He has significant technical experience with respect to optical
systems and optical networks, analog and digital circuits, image processing,
opto-electronic devices, radar systems, Internet technologies, semiconductor
processing and other technologies.
Bill
is admitted to practice in Massachusetts
and the
United States District Court, District of Massachusetts.
Michael
A. Rodriguez, Esq.

Mike focuses
his Intellectual Property practice in patent law, primarily in the preparation
and prosecution of
United States
and foreign patent applications. He
also performs patent infringement and validity studies.
Born and
raised in New York City, Mike is a 1976 graduate of
Regis
High School in Manhattan. He received his B.S. in Electrical
Engineering from Cornell
University
in 1980 and his M.S. in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute
in 1995. He has been registered to
practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office since 1997. He graduated from Suffolk
University Law
School
with his J.D., summa cum laude, in
1999. He is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts
(1999), to the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts (2000),
and to the United States Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit (2001).
After
graduating from Cornell in 1980, Mike moved to the heart of Silicon
Valley
to work for National Semiconductor as a product engineer. Soon afterwards, he was invited to participate in a start-up corporation,
Xicor, Inc., to assist in the development of non-volatile memories. In 1986, Mike returned to the East Coast with his family to continue his
career in the semiconductor industry with Digital Equipment Corporation. At DEC Mike advanced to the position of Principal Engineer while he
attended evening courses to earn his M.S. degree. In 1995, he became a member of DEC’s legal department and later became
a patent agent. Once again, he
attended courses in the evenings, this time towards earning his J.D. degree.
His twelve-year career at DEC came to a close in 1998 when he joined the Boston
law firm of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault. At Testa, he practiced intellectual property law until March 2002, when
he left the firm to co-found
Guerin
& Rodriguez,
LLP. His fifteen-plus years of
engineering experience, eight years of experience in intellectual property, and
more than forty years of life experience have proved invaluable in the service
of his clients.

Mary’s
intellectual property law practice includes the preparation and prosecution of
United
States
and foreign patent applications, infringement
and validity studies, technology license agreements, and strategic intellectual
property strategy counseling for companies ranging from Fortune 500 to start-up
companies.
Mary
received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
in 1986. She then worked as a
computer hardware design engineer on the design of computer systems at Digital
Equipment Corporation. She was
registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1991.
She then worked as a Patent Agent counseling computer systems, storage,
and networking engineering groups at Digital while obtaining her law degree.
Mary graduated Juris Doctor from
Suffolk
University
Law
School
in 1995, and is registered
to practice law in
Massachusetts
.
Mary
left Digital to become Patent Counsel at Bay Networks Inc. in 1997.
After acquisition of Bay Networks by Nortel Networks Inc., she became
Counsel to the CTO at Nortel. Experience
included strategic patent portfolio development, strategic patent license
counseling, and intellectual property counseling regarding technology transfers
and mergers / acquisitions.
Mary
entered private practice in 2001. Mary’s
practice covers a range of technologies, including computer systems, network and
communications systems, and storage systems.
Mary’s combination of technical and intellectual property expertise
serves clients large and small alike.

Tim supports the firm’s clients through a variety of services,
including services directed to acquisition and enforcement of patents and
trademarks in the

and foreign jurisdictions. Tim also
helps clients in the management of intellectual property portfolios.
Tim graduated from the
University
of
Massachusetts
at
Lowell
in 1987 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and he graduated from
Bentley
College
in 1993 with an M.B.A. Before
becoming an attorney, Tim had a 15 year career in the high-tech industry where
he held key hardware engineering, product management, and sales positions with
established pioneers such as Digital Equipment Corporation, BBN Communications,
VideoServer, and Pingtel.
Tim received his J.D. from

in 2006. He has been admitted to
practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 2006. Starting
before graduation, Tim was employed at the law firm of Mills & Onello, LLP,
where he prosecuted domestic and foreign patent and trademark applications, and
assisted clients in various intellectual property matters.
Tim
has over 15 years of technical experience from employment prior to entering the
field of intellectual property law. His
experience allows him to prepare and prosecute
U.S.
and
international patent applications across a range of technical concentrations,
including semiconductor devices and device fabrication processes, digital and
analog circuits and systems, computer hardware including microprocessor
architecture, medical devices, optical devices, radiation detection systems, and
general mechanical devices and systems. Tim
has also participated in intellectual property due diligence for mergers,
acquisitions, and other financing events.

Robert
A. Penchuk

Rob’s
Intellectual Property practice includes the preparation and prosecution of
United States
and International patent applications covering a wide range of electrical,
optical, and mechanical arts.
Rob
received his B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E. from
Carleton
University
,
Ottawa
,
Canada
in 1982 and 1984 respectively, both conferred summa cum laude. As a pioneer in
the semiconductor memory field with over 26 years of experience Rob has
co-authored and provided technical advice on numerous I.E.E.E. publications. He
is named as sole inventor on five patents. Rob began his career with Bell
Northern Research in 1982 where he developed a variety of embedded memory
technologies including the first embedded
DRAM
. He then moved to
Silicon Valley
in
California
to work for Sierra Semiconductor on a novel mixed signal design platform to
facilitate complex analog semiconductor designs. Rob returned to the
Boston
area to work for Digital Equipment Corporation where he advanced to the
position of principle engineer. In this position Rob was a liaison with
third party IP providers and sponsored University research in the field of
analog behavioral synthesis. Subsequently Rob worked for Vicor Corporation
where he developed power factor corrected phased array controllers using a novel
adaptive DSP technique in a custom mixed signal BICMOS process. He was
then offered the opportunity to lead the product engineering team at Analog
Devices Incorporated (
ADI
) where he enabled a very successful DSP product line setting a new standard for
embedded memory integration. Rob continued to drive new IP capability
within
ADI
including technologies in the area of intelligent memories, eDRAM, and eNVM.
This increased focus on technical due diligence of third party and captive
intellectual property led Rob into the legal field where he now enjoys helping
others develop and protect their own creative assets.
Rob
is a patent agent who is registered to practice before the United States Patent
and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the
American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Journal of High
Technology Law Review at
Suffolk
University
Law
School
where he is a 2010 J.D. candidate. In his spare time, Rob is an advanced
amateur radio operator, a general aviation pilot, a holographic artist, and a
mentor to his highly inquisitive son and budding entrepreneur.
